  • Wedgewood Museum

Buckinghamshire Technology Limited recently undertook to provide, as Sub-Contract works to Farebrother Limited, part of the Mechanical and Electrical specification outlined as: - specification for telecommunications system, main fileserver and peripherals.

Our scope was to cover the supply, installation and testing of the following equipment and associated services:-

    • The main telecommunications system for the museum
    • Incoming and Outgoing telephone and ADSL lines
    • Main fileserver and associated peripherals
    • Rack Cabinets to accommodate integrated telecommunications and data network components.

As a more detailed description, following is a breakdown of the actual works and hardware provided.

The telecommunications system comprised of a Toshiba CIX200 VoIP enabled telecommunications switch with capacity for 16 Digital Extensions and 16 IP extensions for use with Wireless IP phones. In addition we provided 5 Meru Wireless access points and a Meru Wireless access controller to allow for the roaming handsets. We provided 5 Hitachi wireless IP handsets and 10 Toshiba Classic 10 Key Display Feature phones. The system has voicemail and a variety of forwarding and conferencing facilities. The telephone system connects to the PSTN via an ISDN30 circuit with 8 channels.

We provided Internet connectivity through our relationship with Power Net our ISP. The connection is a Cisco powered 4Mbit ADSL connection with fully monitored ISDN2e fail over, providing 24/7 uptime. This connects to a 3Com Switched Ethernet network providing Gigabit performance to the file and database servers.

Compaq DL360 G5 servers running Windows SBS 2003 Server were implemented for both the fileserver and the database server running an N+1 raid environment with SAS powered HP Storage Works external SA60 Storage Area Network containing 2terabytes of storage media and capacity for another 6 terabytes there is plenty of information storage space.

Backing all this up is a HP MSL2024 Ultrium 960 Tape Loader with capacity for 24 800gig LTO3 cartridges giving a total of almost 20 terabytes of backup space. Controlling all this is Symantec's Backup Exec AWS11d with advanced open file options.

This solution is robust and pretty much bullet proof, it allows for plenty of expansion and will cater for the needs of the museum for the foreseeable future.
